Bengal BJP Youth Wing to chant Hanuman Chalisa to oppose Namaz on streets
Kolkata, June 26 (IBNS): In another confrontation with the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Youth Wing has decided to chant Hanuman Chalisa on Tuesdays to counter offering of Namaz (Muslim prayers) on streets every Friday, media reports said.
Beginning it on June 25, a group of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) chanted Hanuman Chalisa near Bally Khal in Howrah district.
"GT Road is blocked to offer Friday namaz. Patients die, people can't reach office on time. Recitation continues till Friday namaz like that is offered," BJYM Howrah district president Om Prakash Singh has been quoted saying by Times Now.
Singh said the GT Road remains blocked on every Fridays due to Namaz under the rule of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He has also threatened to continue with the protest as long as Namaz is being offered on the streets every Friday.
Even after a month since the Lok Sabha elections concluded, West Bengal has been on the boil with the political conflict between the TMC and the BJP.
The BJP has often accused the ruling TMC of minority appeasement to garner votes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah have repeatedly accused the Banerjee government of not allowing immersion of Durga idols to pave way for Muhurram. However, Banerjee rejected such claims each time.
The conflict peaked after the Chief Minister objected to the chanting of "Jai Shree Ram", which is used by the BJP in their political programmes, apparently by saffron outfit members in front of her convoy.
Even in Bhatpara following the Lok Sabha poll results, Banerjee had lost her cool and verbally attacked and also abused people chanting the slogan, prompting the BJP to accused the TMC government of being "anti-Hindu". She had also called the people chanting "Jai Shree Ram" as "criminals".
Later, Banerjee clarified stating she is not opposed to "Jai Shree Ram" but to the mixing of politics with religion.
