Bengal Governor calls Mamata Banerjee 'Lady Macbeth', says he will 'socially boycott' her

His video message came hours after a much-anticipated meeting of the agitating junior doctors with Mamata Banerjee failed to take place in Nabanna following the medics' insistence on live-streaming of the proceedings which the CM refused citing the sub-judice nature of the case. 

"In my assessment, the Government has failed in its duty towards society and the victim's parents. The Home Minister has failed in her responsibility to maintain the law and order. The Health Minister has failed in her duty to contain the liquidation of the medical system."

"It is an irony that the health minister happens to be the home minister. The home minister happens to be the chief minister. The chief minister is protesting instead of protecting, who is Lady Macbeth of Bengal," Bose said.

He said there is violence everywhere in West Bengal be it in the cities, towns, villages, or hospitals.

Slamming the Bengal CM, Bose said: "I will socially boycott the Chief minister. Socially means I will never share any stage with the Chief Minister. I will not attend any meeting where the Chief Minister is present." 

"I will take proactive steps against her for violating Constitutional provisions. My role as the Governor will be confined to the Constitutional obligations," the Governor said.

"I stand committed to the Constitution, the people of Bengal, the parents of the victim of RG Kar, and the people who are fighting for justice," he said.

The Governor also expressed anguish over the state government ignoring his advice to take action against Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal.

The protesting doctors have blamed the Kolkata Police Chief for lapses in handling the probe into the rape-murder of a fellow medic at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College.

The investigation was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation following directions from the Calcutta High Court.

The Chief Minister earlier in the evening waited for two hours for the meeting which was scheduled to take place at 5 PM and then addressed the media as well as the people at large from Nabanna.

Mamata said she is ready to resign if needed as she does not hanker for power, but will not be able to accept the junior doctors' insistence on a sub-judice case or their refusal to treat patients who are dying. "I will forgive them still," she said, urging the doctors to join work while alleging that politics is at play in their adamance too.

She then went on to say: "They do not want justice, they want the chair."

The doctors are on a cease work demanding justice over the gruesome rape and murder of a junior doctor in the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last month, an incident that triggered an unprecedented protest in West Bengal.

The delegation of 32 to 34 doctors camped outside the state secretariat Nabanna refused to enter and meet with the Bengal Chief Minister till live streaming was allowed.
