Kolkata/IBNS: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in two key constituencies—Nandigram and Kharagpur—where Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and former state chief Dilip Ghosh are in the fray.

In Nandigram, located in Purba Medinipur, TMC candidate Pabitra Kar is trailing behind Adhikari in early trends.

Local reports suggest BJP candidate Swapan Dasgupta is ahead of TMC’s Debasish Kumar.

According to early trends, the BJP is leading in around 72 seats, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is close behind with 65 seats. The Congress has taken an early lead in 2 constituencies.

West Bengal has once again emerged as the centre of national political attention, with repolling conducted in Falta, Diamond Harbour and Magrahat Paschim following reports of electoral tension.

The elections witnessed an intense contest primarily between the ruling TMC and the BJP.

Polling was conducted in two phases on April 23 and April 29.
