Patna/IBNS: A minister in Bihar's Nitish Kumar government, who is an accused in a 2014 kidnapping case, resigned on Wednesday night amid protests by the opposition.

Earlier in the day, the Bihar Law Minister Kartik Kumar, who is a leader from the alliance partner Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), was moved to the sugarcane department following kidnapping allegations.

The resignation has been accepted and forwarded to the Governor, a statement from the Chief Minister's Office said.

Kartik Kumar was made the Law Minister after Nitish Kumar formed the new Bihar government following the snapping of ties with the BJP.

The Minister was believed to have been chosen by his party RJD.

The BJP had strongly criticised the Nitish Kumar government when Kartik Kumar was appointed as the minister.
