BJP slams Congress leader Randeep Surjewala for 'sexist' comments on Hema Malini

New Delhi: The BJP has slammed Congress leader Randeep Surjewala for his alleged derogatory comments on Mathura MP and actor Hema Malini, saying it revealed Congress’s misogynist face and its complete disregard for women.

"Congress MP Randeep Surjewala makes a vile sexist comment, that is demeaning and derogatory, not just for Hema Malini, who is an accomplished individual, but women in general," BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya tweeted.

"This is Rahul Gandhi's Congress. It is misogynistic and abhors women," he further said.

Surjewala has rubbished the criticism, emphasising that “only selective parts of his speech were shared by the BJP IT cell.” He asserted that it has a habit of "distorting facts and spreading lies".

The Haryana women's panel took cognizance of the controversy and summoned Surjewala on April 9 over his remarks, reported India Today.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said Congress used the comments to demean Hema Malini as it was unable to find a suitable candidate against an accomplished personality like her.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said the Congress is now only known for disrespecting "nari shakti", referring to the recent disparaging remarks against BJP leader Kanagana Ranaut allegedly posted by Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate.

The social media post targeting Ranaut, the Lok Sabha candidate for BJP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, was later removed. Shrinate claimed that it had been posted by an individual with access to her accounts.
