A British Sikh man was fatally stabbed in London in what police described as an incident involving people known to each other, media reports said.

The Metropolitan Police officially identified the victim as Gurmuk Singh, also known as Gary, on Thursday.

It confirmed that Singh died at the scene despite efforts by paramedics to save him.

Singh, who was attacked on July 23, had sustained a fatal stab wound to the left thigh, according to a post-mortem examination.

The police arrested 27-year-old Amardeep Singh on suspicion of murder.

He has been charged and is due to stand trial at the Old Bailey on January 5, 2026.

Four other individuals, a 29-year-old man and three women aged 29, 30, and 54, were also arrested and have been released on bail pending further investigation.

Describing Singh as a "well-loved man," his family, in a statement available with the media, said: “Gary had a remarkable ability to connect with everyone he met. A true social butterfly, nothing brought him more joy than being surrounded by his family.”

An inquest into the death has been initiated and adjourned as investigations continue.
