CJP faces questions over silence on Punjab paper leaks after ending NEET protest

| @indiablooms | Jul 26, 2026, at 02:26 pm

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) called off its over-a-month-long protest on Saturday, just hours after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned over the NEET paper leak controversy and the Centre accepted several of the outfit's key demands.

However, the satirical outfit has now come under scrutiny after a video surfaced online showing its spokespersons avoiding questions from journalists on whether they would launch similar protests over alleged examination irregularities in non-BJP-ruled states such as Punjab.

The video, shared by The Reprise India, shows CJP spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka declining to directly answer repeated questions about whether the organisation would demand accountability from governments in states governed by opposition parties. The clip has since gone viral, triggering widespread debate on social media.

Social media questions CJP's consistency

Several internet users accused the organisation of being selective in its activism.

One user wrote, "Justice for Punjab students please."

Another commented, "Again, it was never about the students."

A third user questioned the outfit's consistency, writing: "How come they had no answer? Dear CJP supporters, can someone please answer this? Will you also go to Punjab and Karnataka and ask for the state education ministers' resignations, or does your accountability stop here? Are you selective? Are you only against the government?"

Another post read: "CJP and Abhijeet Dipke don't care about students and their emotions. Paper leak was just a mask; they only wanted political gains, which they have already achieved. If they really cared about students, why don't they talk about reservation, Punjab and Kerala paper leaks?"

One user also remarked, "Not a single CJP supporter commented here, lmao."

Shweta Tiwari raises the same question

Actress Shweta Tiwari also weighed in on the controversy. Sharing a post on her Instagram Story after Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation, she asked: "Now, when is the Punjab Education Minister resigning? And when are you protesting there, Cockroach Janta Party?"

What happened in Punjab?

The controversy comes amid growing political pressure in Punjab over alleged examination irregularities.

Opposition parties have demanded the resignation of Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains and Health Minister Balbir Singh over multiple alleged paper leaks and examination-related controversies.

Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring posted on X: "When will Punjab Education Minister @harjotbains resign? Four years. Six major paper leaks. Countless dreams shattered. Yet no accountability. Punjab's students deserve answers. They deserve accountability. They deserve a better future."

Delhi Minister and senior BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa also targeted the Aam Aadmi Party government, writing: "When are you going to sack the failed Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, who orchestrated the 'exam scam' in Punjab? Answer this!"

Notably, the Aam Aadmi Party had publicly backed the CJP-led protest against the NEET paper leak in New Delhi.

'This is just the beginning,' says Abhijeet Dipke

Despite ending the 37-day agitation, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke made it clear that the movement is far from over.

Reflecting on the conclusion of the protest, the 30-year-old said he was finally able to experience a sense of normalcy after more than a month of continuous demonstrations.

"I could go to sleep and wake up in my bedroom without thinking about what to do next or what would happen till evening," Dipke said in a video message posted on X.

"There is no panic," he added, describing the 37-day protest as "really, really difficult."

Dipke, who founded the Cockroach Janata Party in May as a satirical response to a remark by the Chief Justice of India, said the movement still has a long journey ahead.

"This is just the beginning. The Cockroach Janata Party has a long way to go," he said.

From satire to a nationwide student movement

What began as a satirical political experiment quickly evolved into a youth-led movement, with thousands of supporters—who proudly referred to themselves as "cockroaches"—assembling at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.

For over a month, protesters raised slogans demanding accountability over the NEET paper leak controversy, alleging that the examination scandal had shattered the aspirations of thousands of students. The movement consistently called for then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation.

Following Pradhan's resignation and the Centre's acceptance of several of the protesters' demands, along with assurances that no action would be taken against demonstrators, the Cockroach Janata Party officially withdrew its agitation.

Even so, the viral video has now shifted attention to a fresh question: whether the CJP will pursue similar campaigns against alleged examination irregularities in states governed by non-BJP parties, or whether its movement will remain focused on the Centre.
