New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday referred to the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia and how they concern both New Delhi and Berlin, meeting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in the national capital on Friday.

Speaking on the ongoing conflicts in various parts of the world, Modi said, "The ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia are matters of concern for both of us. India's view has always been that problems cannot be solved through war. And India is ready to make every possible contribution to the restoration of peace."

"We both are unanimous on ensuring freedom of navigation and rule of law in the Indo-Pacific region under international laws. We also agree that the global forums created in the 20th century are not capable of addressing the challenges of the 21st century. Reforms are needed in other multilateral institutions including the UN Security Council," he added.

Scholz arrived in Delhi on Thursday night.

The Indian Prime Minister and German Chancellor along with officials of the respective countries co-chaired the seventh Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC) at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Friday.

Underlining the India-Germany ties, the Prime Minister said, "I congratulate Chancellor Scholz for Germany's 'Focus on India' strategy. This is a blueprint to comprehensively modernize and elevate the partnership between the world's two largest democracies."

Both leaders comprehensively reviewed the progress made in India-Germany Strategic Partnership in the areas of defence, security, technology and innovation, energy, green and sustainable development.

To expand and elevate India-Germany relations, new initiatives in areas of AI, semiconductors, and clean energy were taken.

Scholz visited India in less than a month after Germany adopted the 'Focus on India' strategic document which is about the future directions of the bilateral relations between the two countries.
