Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely, who recently quit Delhi chief's post, joins BJP

Former Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely, who recently quit the position of Delhi Congress chief, on Saturday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Lovely joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde and Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva.

BJP posted on X: "Former DUSU President Shri Amit Malik and former Delhi MLAs, Arvinder Singh Lovely, Rajkumar Chauhan, Neeraj Basoya and Naseeb Singh, join the BJP at party headquarters in New Delhi."

He joined the BJP at a time when India is voting in the Lok Sabha polls.

So far, two phases of the seven-phase Lok Sabha polls have taken place.

After quitting the post, Lovely had made it clear that he is not joining any other political party.

Lovely said that he has not stepped down from his primary membership of the Congress and merely resigned from his leadership role in protest against the alliance with Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party.

"This pain is not just mine. It belongs to all leaders of the Congress. I shared it with Mallikarjun Kharge in a letter," Lovely was quoted as saying during a press conference.

"And those of you spreading rumours that I have done this because i was upset over ticket distribution, you know I introduced the candidates three days ago at a press conference," he added.
