New Delhi, Jul 6 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday met the six-year-old rape survivor at Safdurjung Hospital, where the girl was undergoing treatment and announced financial help of Rs 10 lakh for her treatment.

The girl's father works as a labourer and the mother works as domestic help in nearby localities. The family had moved to Delhi one-and-a-half years ago, said Kejriwal.

He said the doctors told him that the girl's condition was critical initially, but she has undergone surgery and was stable now.

''I have met the girl's father and assured him of every help from the Delhi government. We will provide them the best lawyer and make sure the accused gets the strictest punishment, which will set an example for other criminals'', said Kejriwal, who was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

He further expressed concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the city and said that people of Delhi and the government were ready to co-operate with the Centre, in view of dealing with the issue.

The Chief Minister appealed to the Central government to take strict steps, to improve the law and order situation here and said that Delhi government would ensure the best medical treatment and facilities to the survivor.

According to police, the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon, when the girl and her elder brother were playing outside their home in a village near Dwarka. The accused offered to buy mango drinks for the kids and took the girl along with him to a secluded place, where he raped her.

Later, he left the girl bleeding in the bushes.

The accused was identified as Mohammad Nanhe, resident of Bulandshahr. He had shifted to Delhi, some two months ago and was searching for work. He lived in the same village, as the girl.

A case was registered against the accused under Section 376 of IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act at Dwarka Sector 23 Police Station. The man has been arrested and he has confessed his crime, police added.
