Delhi cop asks driver to slow down, dies after being dragged by car for 10 metres

In a case of road rage in Delhi's Nangloi area, a 30-year-old police constable, Sandeep, lost his life after being dragged by a car late last night, media reports said.

Sandeep, who was patrolling in civilian clothes on his bike, signalled a rashly driven WagonR to slow down, reported NDTV.

Instead of complying, the car accelerated and hit the constable’s motorcycle from behind, dragging him for about 10 meters.

Sandeep was rushed to a nearby hospital and later referred to another facility, where he was declared dead due to severe head injuries.

CCTV footage captured the moment the officer signalled the driver, only for the car to speed up and hit him, according to te report.

Police said that two people were inside the car at the time of the incident, both of whom fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle.

Police have seized the car and registered a murder case, though the suspects are still at large.

Some sources said one of the occupants may be involved in the illegal liquor trade, though this remains unconfirmed by police.

Senior officer Jimmy Chiram indicated that Sandeep had possibly engaged in a verbal exchange with the driver before the car accelerated and caused the fatal crash, NDTV reported.

He added that this appears to be a case of road rage and investigations are ongoing to identify the culprits.

Sandeep is survived by his mother, wife, and a five-year-old son.

This tragic incident adds to a growing list of road rage cases in the capital region, with similar violent encounters leading to injuries and fatalities in recent months.
