New Delhi/IBNS: A 70-year-old woman was killed after a speeding Mercedes rammed into a Wagon R in Delhi's Narela area on Saturday morning, media reports said.

The victim, identified as Urmila, was out for a morning walk when the Mercedes collided head-on with the Wagon R outside Himalaya Apartments in Mamurpur.

Woman trapped between vehicles

The impact of the collision sent the Wagon R flying backwards before it crashed into a loaded three-wheeler van.

Urmila was reportedly trapped between the Wagon R and the three-wheeler van.

She died at the spot, while the driver of the Wagon R sustained minor injuries.

Mercedes driver arrested

The driver of the Mercedes has been identified as Shubham, who reportedly turned out to be the son of a Haryana Police sub-inspector.

Eyewitnesses alleged that Shubham was driving at high speed and was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Visuals from the scene reportedly showed a beer bottle in the Mercedes' cup holder.

However, police are yet to confirm whether Shubham was drunk when the crash occurred.

Police await medical report

The Mercedes reportedly belongs to a friend of Shubham, who had borrowed the vehicle for a trip a day earlier.

Following his arrest, Shubham underwent a medical examination. Police are awaiting the medical report to determine whether alcohol was present in his blood at the time of the accident.

Meanwhile, Urmila's body has been sent for post-mortem examination as police continue their investigation into the incident.
