New Delhi, Oct 14 (IBNS): A day ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly polls, BJP on Tuesday gave hint that party's state President Devendra Fadnavis may don the Chief Minister's post, if they form Government there, media reported.

Maharashtra is going for “high-voltage” Assembly polls on Wednesday. On Tuesday, media reported that Devendra Fadnavis is the party's top choice as Maharashtra CM’s post.

Fadnavis is the state president of BJP in Maharashtra.

It has been learnt that he is “close” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as BJP chief Amit Shah. It has also been reported that the 44-year-old has an edge over others in the party due to his clean image and wide acceptability and that he is seen as a "new-age leader" in BJP's largely jaded line-up of Maharashtra leaders.

Although Union minister Nitin Gadkari had denied speculation that he was the party's chief ministerial pick, but party sources said that Fadnavis’ name is doing rounds in the party’s internal circles.

According to media reports, Fadnavis, hails from a Brahmin family based in Nagpur, the base of BJP's ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

On the other hand, Rao Inderjit Singh and Captain Abhimanyu are among the front runners for the Chief Minister’s post in Haryana.

Captain Abhimanyu, another young leader, enjoys an edge over the others.

A former spokesperson of the BJP, he also has a clean image.

He was reportedly handpicked by Amit Shah to work for the party in western Uttar Pradesh during the April-May national election.

Captain Abhimanyu, a businessman, quit the army to join politics.
