Padma Awards
Dharmendra, Rohit Sharma, V S Achuthanandan honoured with Padma Awards 2026 — Full list inside
The Government of India on Sunday announced the Padma Awards 2026, honouring distinguished individuals across fields for their exceptional contributions to the nation.
Legendary actor Dharmendra Singh Deol and former Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan have been conferred the Padma Vibhushan posthumously, while celebrated Malayalam cinema icon Mammootty has been awarded the Padma Bhushan.
Actors R Madhavan and Prosenjit Chatterjee have received the Padma Shri.
Renowned Bollywood playback singer Alka Yagnik has also been named for the Padma Bhushan.
Indian cricket stars Rohit Sharma, the T20 World Cup–winning captain, and Harmanpreet Kaur, who led India to World Cup glory, have been honoured with the Padma Shri.
According to a press note issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Padma Awards—among India’s highest civilian honours—are conferred in three categories:
Padma Vibhushan for exceptional and distinguished service
Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of a high order
Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field
The awards are announced annually on the occasion of Republic Day.
For 2026, the President of India has approved 131 Padma Awards, including five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri honours. The list features 19 women awardees, six foreign nationals / NRI / PIO / OCI recipients, 16 posthumous awards, and two duo cases counted as single honours.
Dharmendra, whose illustrious career spanned over six decades, remains one of the most enduring figures of popular Hindi cinema. V S Achuthanandan is remembered as one of Kerala’s most influential political leaders, known for his firm administrative stance and long public life. Mammootty, honoured with the Padma Bhushan, is widely regarded as one of India’s finest actors, with an acclaimed body of work across multiple languages.
The Padma Awards will be formally conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, usually during March–April each year.
