Dilip Ghosh slams Babul Supriyo for terming his shooting comment 'irresponsible'
Kolkata/IBNS: BJP state unit president Dilip Ghosh has slammed party colleague and Asansol MP Babul Supriyo for terming recent controversial comment "irresponsible", reported New 18.
“Who is the party president? Who will decide on the party’s internal matters? Amit Shahji or him (Babul Supriyo)? I believe you got the answer,” Ghosh was quoted by News18.
On Sunday, addressing a public rally in Nadia district of West Bengal, Ghosh had criticised Mamata Banerjee government "for not opening fire and ordering a lathi-charge" and said BJP governments in Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Karnataka shot the CAA NRC protesters like dogs.
"Mamata Banerjee has no guts to take action against those who had resorted to arson. Those who damaged the public properties must be shot and killed like our governments did in Uttar Pradesh and Assam," said Ghosh.
Countering his own party chief, Union Minister and BJP MP from West Bengal's Asansol, Babul Supriyo, tweeted, "BJP, as a party has nothing to do with what a DIlipGhosh may hv said. It is a figment of his imagination&BJP Govts in UP, Assam hv NEVER EVER resorted to shooting people for whatever reason whatsoever. Very irresponsible of DilipDa to hv said what he said."
Later, Ghosh said Supriyo's criticism was unfortunate as he only meant that in Assam, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh, state governments punished those who damaged properties and took law in their hands, reported News 18.
"Police firing took place and case was also filed. There is nothing hidden. It’s a party stand to deal strictly with trouble-makers in Uttar Pradesh and other BJP-ruled states. Damaging public properties and holding the entire state to ransom cannot be tolerated,” he added.
“My statement was in Bengal’s context where the chief minister acted as a mute spectator and a section of people damaged railway property and public transport systems during the anti-Citizenship Act protests in December. I said the Bengal government should have acted in a similar manner like Uttar Pradesh. If we come to power in Bengal, we will deal with them in a similar manner,” he continued.
Asked if Supriyo's statement could send a wrong message to other parties, Ghosh said that such things had happened on a number of occasions and added that some "non-political" people in the party.
"Look at (former BJP leaders) Navjot Singh Sidhu, Shatrughan Sinha and Chandra Bose. Everyone knows what they did and are doing. They have their own agenda. If you want to use their image, then you have to bear such things,” the West Bengal BJP chief was quoted by News 18.
