DYFI leader Kalatan Dasgupta arrested over an audio clip of conversation aiming 'attack on junior doctors'

Kolkata/IBNS: Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) leader Kalatan Dasgupta has been arrested over an audio clip, which was brought to public by Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh who claimed a conspiracy has been hatched to attack the protesting junior doctors passing the blame on the ruling party.

The audio clip, which has not been verified by IBNS independently, captured a conversation of two people allegedly planning an attack on thousands of junior doctors, who are camped outside state Health and Family Welfare office Swasthya Bhavan in Salt Lake area demanding justice for the RG Kar rape-murder case.

The viral audio referred to two people whose names start with letters S' and 'A' respectively.

One person- named Sanjib Das- was arrested on Friday. Kalatan, who has been accused to be the person in the conversation, was arrested by the Bidhannagar Police on Saturday.

Reacting to his arrest, Kalatan told the media, "It is a tactic to divert people's attention from the movement demanding justice for the RG Kar incident."

At a press conference, police said they will seek a 14-day custody before the court.

Training guns at the CPI-M, TMC spokesperson Debangshu Bhattacharya posted on X, "It's a shame that a plan to attack the junior doctors was made to infuriate people. I can't believe DYFI leader Kalatan Dasgupta is a part of the conspiracy.

"Police must investigate to see who was 'Saheb' that was referred to in the clip. Is Minakshi Mukherjee the 'Saheb'? Now I am sure that the attack on junior doctors on August 14 was planned by them only."

West Bengal junior doctors' sit-in protests outside state Health and Family Welfare headquarters- Swasthya Bhavan- entered the fifth day on Saturday after the efforts to hold a discussion between the protesters and the government on the RG Kar rape-murder incident failed on Thursday evening.

The junior doctors refused to enter into a dialogue with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after the government refused to stream the meeting live.

Despite the government asking the protesters to send a 15-member team for the meeting, a 30-member delegation of junior doctors reached the state headquarters Nabanna.

Though the government accepted the 30-member team, it remained firm on denying live streaming but allowed recording of the meeting.

After the doctors refused to participate in the meeting without live streaming, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who claimed she waited for two hours at Nabanna Sabhaghar, accused the protesters of aiming to capture political power and not seeking justice.
