Elections for 56 Rajya Sabha seats in 15 states to be held on next month

The Election Commission of India on Monday released the date for the elections on 56 Rajya Sabha seats in 15 states.

The elections are slated to take place on February 27 and the counting of votes will be done on the same day.

The term of office of 56 members of the Council of States, elected from the following 15 States, is due to expire upon their retirement in April 2024, the EC said in a notification.

The list of 15 states include Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Rajasthan.

The nominations for Rajya Sabha seats will commence on February 8 and will continue till February 15. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on February 16, it said.

The Election Commission has set February 20 as the deadline for the withdrawal of nominations.

The voting is scheduled for February 27 from 9 am and 4 pm, and the counting of votes will be held on the same day at 5 pm, the EC said.
