New Delhi/IBNS: A group of people attacked the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials, who had searched former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel's premises in a money laundering investigation against his son in the alleged liquor scam case, said reports.

Officials alleged the attackers were Congress workers, who were upset over the searches at Baghel's premises.

The car of a deputy director-level ED officer was also attacked, said reports.

Visuals of the attack show a large group of people surrounding the ED officers and hitting them.

Earlier in the day, the Enforcement Directorate raided Bhupesh Baghel and his son Chaitanya's residences in connection with the multi-crore liquor scam.

At least 14 locations linked to the Baghels have been raided.

The raids were conducted by ED officials under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The probe agency feels the beneficiaries in the scam siphoned around Rs. 2,161 crore through multiple schemes.

The scam had allegedly led to the unaccounted sale of country liquor from state-run shops leading to a massive loss to the state exchequer.

The ED claims, as per reports, the entire money was siphoned by the syndicates.

Reacting to the raid, Bhupesh Baghel's office has put up an X post, "When the false case going on for seven years was dismissed in the court, today the guests of ED have entered the Bhilai residence of former Chief Minister, Congress General Secretary Bhupesh Baghel this morning.

"If someone is trying to stop Congress in Punjab through this conspiracy, then it is a misunderstanding."
