Sharada Iyer, sister of Malayalam playback singer Chitra Iyer, died in a trekking accident in Oman’s Jebel Shams region, media reports said.

Sharada, 52, hailed from Thazhava in Kerala and was living in Muscat at the time of the incident. An Indian expatriate, she was a former manager with Oman Air.

According to local media reports, Sharada was part of a trekking group navigating the marked trails in the rugged Jebel Shams area when the accident occurred.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the circumstances of her death.

Confirming the tragedy, Chitra Iyer shared an emotional post on Facebook, stating: “My sister Sharada passed away yesterday afternoon around 2 pm local time in a freak accident while on a trekking expedition in the hills in Muscat, Oman. We are all heartbroken and deeply sad and grieving.”

Sharada had returned to Oman on December 24 after travelling to India to attend the funeral of her father, Dr R.D. Iyer, who died on December 11, Gulf News reported.
