Fighting for common man's dream, not Modi's: Shiv Sena hits out at BJP
New Delhi, July 23 (IBNS): Widening the rift with the bigger ally BJP, the Shiv Sena has said it is not fighting for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream but common man's, hitting out at the ruling party once again.
The comment has been made by Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in an interview published in the party's mouthpiece Saamana on Monday.
Thackeray has been quoted by NDTV as saying, "I'm fighting for the common man's dream, not for (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi's dream."
The Sena chief's comment came hours after BJP national president Amit Shah's message to his party to prepare for a solo fight in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
In the interview, Thackeray said: "We don't have only one friend. We are friends of the public." He added, "I will hunt but don't need to shoot from anyone else's shoulder. Nor will I need a gun for the hunt."
The rift between the two parties was evident even during the No-Confidence Motion in the parliament on Friday when the Sena, despite being the BJP's ally, didn't participate in the voting process.
The motion was brought by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's Telegu Desam Party (TDP) against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre.
On Thursday, however, the Sena had reportedly agreed to cast its vote in favour of the BJP to only later flip-flop on the issue.
In the last few months, the relationship between the BJP and the Sena had worsened with the latter's repeated attacks on the saffron party.
The Sena has even said it will fight alone the next General Election, which is going to be held in less than a year's time.
