FIR against Parambrata Chatterjee, Swastika Mukherjee over remarks linked to 2021 post-poll violence

A fresh legal controversy has surfaced around Bengali actor-director Parambrata Chatterjee and actress Swastika Mukherjee after a complaint and application seeking an FIR were filed against them at Kolkata’s Gariahat Police Station.

Allegations linked to 2021 post-poll violence

The complaint, filed by Joydeep Sen, accuses the two actors of allegedly inciting violence in the aftermath of the 2021 West Bengal Assembly election results.

According to the complaint, social media posts shared by Parambrata Chatterjee and Swastika Mukherjee on May 2, 2021 — the day election results were declared — contained remarks described as “sexually colored” and “mocking” in nature.

The complainant has alleged that the comments contributed to an atmosphere of hostility and encouraged attacks against political opponents during the tense post-poll period.

The application also links the alleged remarks to the murder of BJP worker Abhijit Sarkar, claiming the online comments influenced acts of violence.

Complaint filed at Gariahat Police Station

The FIR application was submitted at the Gariahat Police Station in Kolkata on May 21, 2026.

Police are yet to officially confirm whether an FIR has been registered in the matter.

Neither Parambrata Chatterjee nor Swastika Mukherjee has publicly reacted to the allegations so far.

Parambrata’s previous legal controversies

This is not the first time Parambrata Chatterjee has found himself embroiled in legal disputes.

2009 adultery complaint

In 2009, a bailable arrest warrant was issued against the actor following a complaint filed by Pramit Sen, the estranged husband of Swastika Mukherjee.

The complaint accused the actor of adultery and criminal enticement. Parambrata was later granted bail.

Bangladesh visa allegation in 2017

In 2017, Bangladeshi filmmaker Gazi Rakayet filed a general diary against Parambrata at Banani Police Station in Dhaka, alleging that he had worked in Bangladesh using a tourist visa instead of a work permit.

2016 talk show controversy

The actor was also drawn into controversy in 2016 over alleged “sexually colored” comments made during a television talk show appearance.

Distancing himself from industry disputes

In November 2025, Parambrata had announced that he would no longer pursue legal action in disputes involving the Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers of Eastern India (FCTWEI), stating that he wanted to avoid further bitterness within the film industry.
