Former Haryana CM Chautala to surrender today

New Delhi, Oct 11 (IBNS): Former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala is likely to surrender to Tihar Jail authorities on Saturday, reports said.

The Delhi High Court cancelled his bail and ordered him to discontinue his political rallies after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had sought cancellation of his bail.

The federal investigation agency also urged the court to bring forward his surrender date that was earlier fixed for October 17.

Chief of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), Chautala was convicted in January last year for running a graft-laden scheme to recruit teachers for government institutions when he was in office in 1999.

He was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment.

Chautala was granted bail on medical grounds in May last year. But he was seen actively holding rallies to campaign for the assembly elections across Haryana.

The Delhi High Court asked the jail authorities to take Chautala to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences or AIIMS after his surrender on Saturday, if they consider it necessary.
