Funeral of CDS General Bipin Rawat, 12 others killed in chopper crash to be held today

New Delhi/IBNS: The funeral of India's first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 others, who were killed in the helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu, will be held on Friday.

The funeral will take place at Brar Square crematorium in Delhi cantonment at 4 pm.

The final respect to the mortal remains of General Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat were paid by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress top leader Rahul Gandhi, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and other key politicians at the late CDS' residence.

With a heavy heart paid my last respects to Gen Bipin Rawat Ji and Mrs Madhulika Rawat Ji.

The 13 bodies were flown back on a C130-J Super Hercules aircraft that landed at Delhi's Palam airport.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and NSA Ajit Doval paid their tributes as well.

Only three of the 13 bodies have been identified so far-that of General Rawat and his wife, Madhulika Rawat, and Brigadier LS Lidder.

A tri service enquiry regarding the crash has been ordered by the Indian Air Force (IAF), Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Thursday.

The enquiry will be headed by Air Marshal Manvendra Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Training Command, said Singh in Parliament.
