Guidelines for regulation of OTT platforms to be implemented soon: Centre
New Delhi/IBNS: The Centre on Tuesday informed that rules and guidelines related to the regulation of Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms are almost ready and will be implemented soon.
In the wake of the controversy of two of Amazon Prime's shows, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said in the Parliament that: "We keep getting a lot of suggestions and complaints related to OTT platforms. Guidelines and direction are almost ready on OTT platforms and will soon be rolled out and implemented."

The government had put OTT platforms, such as Netflix and Amazon, as well as news and current affairs content on online platforms under the regulation of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The Ministry has been entrusted with powers to regulate policies and rules for the digital space in November last year.
There have been calls for regulating these popular platforms after a row over two series on Amazon Prime - 'Tandav' and 'Mirzapur'.
The makers of 'Tandav' were forced to apologise as well as drop some parts of its content after facing backlash and FIRs for allegedly "hurting religious sentiments", "promoting religious enmity" and "defiling a place of worship".
'Mirzapur' also faced calls for a ban over allegations of "maligning the image of Uttar Pradesh".
