New Delhi: Indian President Droupadi Murmu on Friday condoled the demise of Queen Elizabeth II and described her as a 'great personality'.

" In the demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of UK, the world has lost a great personality. An era has passed since she steered her country and people for over 7 decades. I share the grief of people of UK and convey my heartfelt condolence to the family," the President tweeted.

Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest-serving monarch, breathed her last on Thursday, the Royal Family confirmed in a tweet. She was 96.

The Queen reigned for 70 years.

The royal family including the Queen's son and heir Prince Charles, grandsons William and Harry and their families have gathered at her Balmoral retreat in the Scottish highlands, where she spent her last days.
