New Delhi/UNI: The Indian Navy’s INS Kolkata rescued 21 crew members, including one Indian, from a Barbados flagged cargo vessel – True Confidence -- that was attacked by a drone or missile in the Gulf of Aden.

The attack on the vessel that happened on Wednesday, left the crew critically injured, forcing them to abandon the ship.

The injured were rescued using integral helicopters and boats and were provided medical aid, the Indian Navy said on social media handle ‘X’.

The Indian Navy said, "#INSKolkata deployed for #MaritimeSecurityOperations, arrived on location at 1645 hrs & rescued 21 crew, including one Indian national, using integral helicopter & boats. Critical medical aid provided to injured crew."

The crew of True Confidence were subsequently evacuated to Djibouti, The Indian Navy said.
