The QUAD foreign ministers on Tuesday condemned the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam town on April 22, which left 26 people, mostly tourists, killed.

The foreign ministers called for the perpetrators, organisers, and financiers of the terror act to be brought to justice without any delay.

In a joint statement issued after the meeting in Washington DC, the foreign ministers said: "The Quad unequivocally condemns all acts of terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism, and renews our commitment to counterterrorism cooperation."

"We condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, 2025, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, while injuring several others," the statement said.

"We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and extend our heartfelt wishes for a swift and full recovery to all those injured," the foreign ministers said in the joint statement.

The statement further said: "We call for the perpetrators, organizers, and financiers of this reprehensible act to be brought to justice without any delay and urge all UN Member States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant UNSCRs, to cooperate actively with all relevant authorities in this regard."

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, along with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Japan’s Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya, and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong participated in the meeting.

After the meeting, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar wrote on X: " Just finished a very productive meeting of Quad Foreign Ministers in Washington DC."

He said a discussion was made to make Quad more focused and impactful on contemporary opportunities and challenges.

He said: "Today’s gathering will strengthen strategic stability in the Indo - Pacific and keep it free and open."

Pahalgam Terror Attack

Pak-backed terrorists killed 26 people, who were travelling in Baisaran meadow, a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, leaving the world shocked.

India responded to the attack on May 7 by launching Operation Sindoor and targeting nine terror hubs located in PoK and Pakistan.

Pakistan targeted several Indian cities with drones and missiles on the following nights.

India successfully repelled all attacks and mounted strong counterstrikes.

After three days of hostilities, India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire on May 10.
