J&K: 2 Army jawans, 1 woman killed in Pak firing
Jammu, Jan 4 (IBNS): Continuous ceasefire violations along the border area and security outposts in Jammu and Kashmir killed two Army jawans on Saturday along with a woman while injuring 11 after the Pakistani side targetted some villages here.
Residents of villages along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) in the state have been forced to move to camps following heavy shelling of forward Indian positions and civilian areas.
The jawans lost their lives when rocket-propelled grenades fired by Pakistan hit a post in north Kashmir’s Tanghdar area, officials said.
A woman, identified as Tori Devi, was killed in Samba village on Saturday when Pakistan Rangers rained down mortar bombs.
Earlier, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Saturday dismissed Pakistan's allegation over the killing of Pakistan Rangers and said the country could not accept any contentions made in Advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on National Security and Foreign Affairs' letter.
MEA Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted: "Minister @SushmaSwaraj writes to Pakistan’s Foreign Affairs & National Security Advisor-'cannot accept any contentions made in your letter'."
On Friday, the Adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on National Security and Foreign Affairs sent a letter to the Minister of External Affairs, India, to lodge protest on the killing of 'two soldiers' of the Punjab Rangers in Zafarwal Sector.
The Adviser in his letter lodged the Government of Pakistan’s strong protest with the Government of India, calling for an immediate investigation into the incident and bringing the perpetrators to account.
The Adviser’s letter was handed over to the Indian High Commissioner by the Foreign Secretary. Expressing concern at the way the incident had taken place, the Foreign Secretary of Pakistan underlined that the incident was not only in contravention to the rules of engagement, but also amounted to breach of trust of Pakistani soldiers in these mechanisms.
Pakistani troops resorted to heavy mortar shelling since Friday targetting Indian villages and 13 border outposts.
Five Pakistani Rangers were also killed in Indian retaliation, said reports.
Heavy firing was reported from Samba and Hiranagar sectors.
Several Border Security Force (BSF) posts were targeted.
The firing occurred at a time when the Indian Coast Guard on Friday said the suspicious Pakistani boat, that blew itself up near the Gujarat coast on the new year's eve, had continued to send signals of non-compliance despite being cornered by it.
