Kashmir: Army officer killed after falling into gorge near LoC

Srinagar, Apr 14 (UNI) An Army officer was killed when he slipped and fell into a deep gorge near the Line of Control in frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara.

Official sources said that troops of 57 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) were patrolling forward areas in upper reaches of Kumkadi forests in Machil sector. “A Major, identified as Vikash, slipped and fell into a deep gorge, resulting in injuries to the officer,” they said.

They said the injured was immediately taken to a hospital from where he was referred to Army’s 92 base hospital in Srinagar.

However, they said the Army official succumbed at the hospital.
