Kavinder Gupta elected as Speaker of J&K Assembly

Jammu, Mar 18 (IBNS): Senior BJP leader and MLA of Gandhinagar Kavinder Gupta was generally elected for the post of the Speaker of the 12th Legislative Assembly here at the Rajbhawan in Jammu on Wednesday.
According to official spokesperson, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Syed Basharat Ahmed Bukhari moved the motion for the election of the Speaker which was seconded by Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh.
 
The Deputy Chief Minister appreciated the opposition members for supporting the election of  Gupta..
 
Meanwhile, state Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Wednesday congratulated BJP MLA Kavinder Gupta on being chosen as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
 
Describing Kavinder Gupta as an appropriate choice for the post of the Speaker, the Chief Minister exuded confidence that he will conduct the business of the House admirably. 
 
"I pray for your success and am sure you will conduct the House efficiently by allowing both the Treasury as well as the Opposition benches with equal opportunities in putting forth their viewpoints," the Chief Minister added.
 
Former Chief Minister and MLA of Beerwah Omar Abdullah in his brief address congratulated the newly elected Speaker and described him as the custodian of the House. 
 
He expressed hope that the Speaker would provide equal opportunities to all the members to highlight the issues of public interest.
 
Er. Abdul Rashid also congratulated the new Speaker and wished him success in running the House smoothly, while respecting the sentiments of the members in raising issues of public concern.
