Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s controversial film The Bengal Files, which was released in theatres across the country last week and was banned in Bengal, will now have a special screening in Kolkata on September 13.

The news was officially shared by former Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta.

The special screening of The Bengal Files is scheduled for 4 pm on September 13 at Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Bhasha Bhavan, National Library, Kolkata.

The screening will be a closed-door event, accessible strictly by invitation.

This comes after the film was not released theatrically in West Bengal.

The film claims to depict the overlooked chapter of India’s history. In Bengal.

In an interview, Vivek Agnihiotri shared how cinema houses have been refraining from screening the film due to political pressure, saying, “We opened the advanced booking and the theatres have been finalised. I've got to know through my distributors. The distributors had different religions in Bengal. It will create history. But I just learned that theatres are now refusing to show it because they fear that there will be political turmoil.”

The Bengal Files is written by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi. It stars Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, and Darshan Kumar.

The film, presented by Tej Narayan Agarwal & I Am Buddha Productions, is part of Vivek’s Files trilogy, which includes The Kashmir Files and The Tashkent Files.

The film was released in theatres on September 5, 2025.
