Lok Sabha Election: High voltage campaign ends in Odisha for first phase poll
Bhubaneswar, Apr 9 (UNI) The high voltage electioneering for four Lok Sabha and 28 Assembly seats, mostly in southern parts of Odisha, came to an end this evening.
The BJP, the main contender in the fray for the ruling BJD, was seen much ahead in electioneering compared to the other two major political parties with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah spearheading and addressing election rallies in the four Lok Sabha constituencies.
They were joined by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Jogi Adityanath and Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das besides a host of central ministers who attended the Vijaya Sanklap Samavesh, organized by the party in favour of party candidates.
The ruling BJD campaign was mostly confined to party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who not only addressed the election rallies but also joined a series of road shows while travelling in a high-tech bus.
The Congress campaign on the other hand was lackluster as no central leaders visited the state for electioneering and the party was busy in selecting candidates even at the last moment.
Party president Rahul Gandhi who was supposed to address a rally in the first week of April, deferred it to the last day of campaign today to address a rally at Digpahandi, in Ganjam district in South Odisha which was also cancelled at the last moment, due to a possible norwester warning much to the disappointment of the Congress leaders, workers and party candidates.
Modi visited the state thrice within a span of ten days and addressed four election rallies at Jeypore in Koraput district, Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district, Sundargarh and Sonepur.
Similarly, party president Amit Shah also visited the state, released the party manifesto and addressed election rallies at Parlakhemundi in Gajpati district, Umerkote in Nabarangpur district and Polsara in Ganjam district besides Bargarh.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Jogi Adityanath though visited the state but could not reach the two election rallies, proposed in south Odisha, due to late arrival of his aircraft and was forced to address the people on his mobile from the Biju Pattnaik International airport.
