Mumbai: A Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable, who was identified as Chetan Kumar, shot dead three passengers and an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) on board a Mumbai-bound train between the Vapi and Palghar stations in Maharashtra early on Monday.

According to railway officials, the constable, on escort duty, first targeted and killed his senior ASI, Tika Ram Meena, using his service weapon.

He then proceeded to another compartment of Jaipur-Mumbai Express train and killed three other passengers.

After attempting to escape by pulling the emergency chain, the accused, Deepak Kumar, was apprehended by police at Mira Road with assistance from Government Railway Police and RPF officials.

As per the recent reports, the accused constable was under depression and had a fight with his superior before the incident.

A forensic team, GRP, RPF, and local authorities, along with senior officers, have started probing the incident.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the victims, whose identities are being established, were shifted to Borivali station for further formalities.
