Imphal/UNI: The Manipur government has started taking actions against two persons for allegedly declaring a government in exile in London.

All bank accounts operated by the two persons Narengbam Samarjit and Yambem Biren Singh were also freezed.

All the companies including a private bank associated with Samarjit were also closed down for probe. Kh Raghumani, Special secretary (Home), said in an order that, “There are reasonable grounds for suspicion that the money held in the individual Bank accounts operated by the duo is intended for use of unlawful purpose and waging war against the lawfully and democratically established country of India and Government of Manipur”. Hence the decision to freeze the accounts maintained by the two persons.

Samarjit had been associated with Salai groups of the company which has about 18 subsidiary groups. People continued to visit the head office of the Salai group at Imphal to enquire about the Salai banking services which have closed down.

The customers of the bank fearing loss of money convened a meeting today to discuss the situation. The Salai group meanwhile appealed to people to remain calm as the banks and other offices were closed owing to the probe by police. Board of Director of Salai Holdings Pvt Ltd, also had announced that the company is not related to the matter and Samarjit is not associated with the company. He was also removed as Director of the Company it was added.

Yambem Biren had declared himself as Chief Minister of Manipur State Council and Samarjit as Minister of External Affairs and Defence on behalf of the King of Manipur, Leishemba Sanajaoba.

Manipur government has already initiated action against the two for allegedly waging war against the state.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh had informed that cases were filed against the two persons for allegedly waging war against the state under IPC section 121, 121 (a),124(a), 124(b).

A case has been filed at Imphal West police station and since the announcement was done in a foreign country the Special Crime branch Manipur will probe into the functioning of the two persons.

The Home department will ask the NIA to probe into the incident.

The titular King of Manipur Leishemba also clarified that he never permitted the two persons to form any government in exile.

As reported in various international media the two persons had reportedly taken political asylum in the United Kingdom in September 2019, fleeing persecution and repression by the Indian state as declaring independence in India would have led them to be arrested and killed arbitrarily by the Indian security forces.

They also called upon on all the governments of the sovereign states of the members of the United Nations for their recognition of the de jure and exile Government of the Manipur. The three million Manipuri people want recognition as one of the precious native nations it was reported.

They said that Narendra Modi’s government is intolerant and believes in physical annihilation of small nations and communities for the sake of Hindutva supremacy and therefore it was not safe for them to continue operating from India.

They also said that Manipur is being ruled through draconian laws by the Indian occupation government “under the Republic Constitution of India including Arms Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958”. They also gave a detailed list of numbers of persons killed, arrested by troops in Manipur.

Manipur has large numbers of militant groups fighting for independence. A former Independent Kingdom Manipur became part of India on 15 Oct 1949.
