Militants gun down teenage girl in Assam before parents

| | Aug 27, 2014, at 05:48 pm
Guwahati, Aug 27 (IBNS) The banned National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants killed a girl by firing at her point blank in front of her parents recently in Assam's Chirang district, media reports said on Wednesday.

The ultras executed the 16-year-old girl suspecting her as a police informer.

The incident occurred almost a week ago. The girl is identified as Priya Basumatary from Dwimguri village.

Media reports said the girl was shot nine times while her family was made to watch the horror.

NDFB is an armed insurgent outfit which seeks to obtain a sovereign Bodoland for the Bodo people in Assam.

Formed in 1998, the group carried out several attacks on civilians in Assam, targeting non-Bodo civilians as well as the security forces. In May 2005, it signed a ceasefire with the Government, but some of its factions continue to indulge in militancy.
