Modi discusses development in bilateral relations across multiple sectors during telephone conversations with Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis
Indian PM Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis when they welcomed developments in bilateral relations across multiple sectors, including technology.
Speaking on the conversation, the Indian Prime Minister's Office said: "Prime Minister Mitsotakis shared warm wishes on the occasion of Prime Minister Modi’s birthday. Prime Minister Modi expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the gesture."
Modi turned 75 recently with several world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, wishing him on the special occasion.
During the conversation with the Greek PM, both leaders welcomed developments in bilateral relations across sectors such as trade, investment, technology, shipping, defence, security, connectivity and people-to-people ties, and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the India-Greece Strategic Partnership.
Prime Minister Mitsotakis conveyed Greece’s support for the early conclusion of a mutually beneficial India-EU Free Trade Agreement and for the success of the AI Impact Summit to be hosted by India in 2026.
"They also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest," the statement said.
India-Greece Relationship
India’s has traditionally enjoyed friendly bilateral ties with Greece.
This has been mainly characterized by the political support each country has shown for the other on core position at the international level.
Over the years close personal ties have also been forged between senior political leaders in both countries.
"Greece has consistently supported India on sensitive issues such as Jammu & Kashmir, India’s membership in a reformed and expanded UNSC, our membership in various non-proliferation regimes like the NSG etc," read a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Greece.
Following India’s nuclear weapon test in 1998, while other European powers were calling for sanctions against India, the Greek defence Minister paid a bilateral visit in December 1998 and signed an MoU on Defence Cooperation.
India has similarly shown consistent support to Greece on its core international interests particularly related to the Cyprus issue, and its positions on the maritime issues with Turkey
