‘Murder in name of Jihad’: Owaisi calls on Centre to make Pakistan pay for terror

New Delhi: AIMIM leader and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday called for a coordinated global campaign to designate The Resistance Front (TRF)—a Lashkar-e-Taiba affiliate—as a terrorist organisation.

He said TRF, which claimed responsibility for the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, aims to commit murders in India in the name of 'jihad'.

Speaking after an all-party meeting convened a day after India's airstrikes on terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir under Operation Sindoor, Owaisi said: "I complimented our armed forces and the government for carrying out Operation Sindoor. I suggested that we run an international campaign against TRF. We must get the UN Security Council to designate it as a terrorist organisation. We must get the US to designate TRF as a foreign terrorist organisation.”

He added, “In February, Hafiz Abdur Rauf delivered a speech in PoK that we want to do jihad this year. They want to murder and spread terror in the name of jihad. Pakistan must be put on the grey list of FATF. We must also get the UK government to ban TRF and sanction Pakistan."

The AIMIM chief said the Centre now has a historic opportunity to act decisively against Pakistan while extending support to civilians in Kashmir affected by terror.

“Civilians were killed in Poonch and people lost their homes in Uri. The government must identify them as victims of terror, provide them compensation and rebuild their homes," he said.

Owaisi also praised the precision of Operation Sindoor, particularly the strikes on terror hubs in Muridke and Bahawalpur. "These are known terrorist headquarters," he said.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who led the all-party meeting, briefed political leaders on the progress of Operation Sindoor. According to sources, Singh said the operation is ongoing and India is not seeking escalation, but will retaliate if provoked by Pakistan.

While sensitive details were not disclosed, Singh reportedly told party leaders that approximately 100 terrorists were killed in the strikes, though he noted that the figure was unconfirmed and based on preliminary inputs.
