Notebook for students: NHRC issues notice to Delhi govt

"The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of Right to education of the students. Accordingly, it has issued notices to the Secretary, Primary Education Department, Government of NCT of Delhi and Chairman, North Delhi Municipal Corporation, New Delhi calling for reports within two weeks," read a statement issued by the NHRC.

"According to the media report, carried on the 31st August, 2015, the fight between AAP Government and BJP led Corporations has led to this situation. While AAP Government has increased budget for education by more than 100 per cent, promising radical changes in education system in Delhi, it is least bothered to give money to Corporations to run the schools. The "mismanaged" Corporations too are least concerned as they are still struck in tendering process. The media report quoted a Spokesperson of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation that "the process is on …. in few days, the tender will be finalized for procurement of notebooks. The kids will be provided books at the earliest," it said.
