Pakistan school attack: 132 killed, 6 terrorists gunned down
Peshawar, Dec 16 (IBNS): In one of the deadliest attacks in recent times, Tehreek-e-Taliban terrorists claimed the lives of at least 132 people including 100 students after they stormed into the Army Public School and College in Pakistan's Peshawar city on Tuesday morning, latest media reports said.
Among those killed, 100 were school students, reports said.
About 245 other students and teachers have suffered injuries while some of them are in a serious condition.
The Taliban terror outfit claimed the responsibility of the attack and said it is a response to the Pakistan Army’s military operation in North Waziristan launched in June this year.
According to reports, six estimated terrorists stormed into the school and targetted the children.
All of them have been gunned down by the security forces, Pakistan Police confirmed.
The terrorists were asked to attack older children in the school to take revenge against the Pakistani government.
They reportedly shouted slogans against the Pakistani government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supremo Imran Khan.
Security forces surrounded the Army Public School & College soon after the terrorists of the Tehreek-e-Taliban stormed into the campus in the morning.
They took about 500 hostages earlier.
It took almost seven hours for the Pakistan Army to end its operation.
A total of fifteen blasts were also reported from the site of attack.
According to Pakistani TV channel reports, children were used as human shields by terrorists during exchange of fire with Pakistani security forces.
Officials said IEDs were planted by the terrorists to hamper the clearance operation by the security forces.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has reached Peshawar.
While interacting with the media, he said all those responsible for the attack will not be spared.
"My condolences with the families of those who lost their kids in the terror attack," Sharif said.
PM Sharif has announced a three-day mourning in wake of the attack.
He also called for an all-party meeting in Peshawar on Wednesday.
As the number of casualties are increasing, hospitals are facing severe blood shortages.
Condemning the incident, PTI's Imran Khan tweeted: "Shocked at attack on school in Peshawar. Strongly condemn this inhuman act of utter barbarism."
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Prime Minister has condemned the terror attack in Peshawar. ​

​​ "Strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack at a school in Peshawar. It is a senseless act of unspeakable brutality that has claimed lives of the most innocent of human beings - young children in their school. My heart goes out to everyone who lost their loved ones today. We share their pain and offer our deepest condolences," the Prime Minister said in a statement. ​

India's Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also condemned the attack.
"I strongly condemn the terrorist attack on a school at Peshwar(Pakistan). This dastardly & inhuman attack exposes the real face of terrorism. My heart goes out to the families of those children who got killed by the terrorists in Peshwar. I express my condolences to those families."
Following the massacre, Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj cancelled the dinner that she was scheduled to host for the MPs.
"In view of the massacre of innocent children in Pakistan, tonight's dinner hosted by me for Members of Parliament is hereby cancelled," she said.
"Our hearts go out to the grief stricken families of the innocent children killed & injured in this barbaric attack in Peshawar. We condemn horrific attack on innocent school children in Peshawar," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin stated.
