Patnaik, Chamling take oath as CMs, Modi wishes

Bhubaneswar/Gangtok/New Delhi, May 21 (IBNS): Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Pawan Chamling of Sikkim were sworn-in as chief ministers of their respective states on Wednesday.

Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling created a political record as he became the country's longest serving chief minister transcending the late Communist patriarch Jyoti Basu.

Chamling led his party Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) for  record mandate for the fifth time in a row in this assembly elections results of which were declared on Friday.

Narendra Modi, who is all set to take oath as the Prime Minister of India on May 26, congratulated Chamling and tweeted: "Congratulations & best wishes to Shri Pawan Chamling on being sworn in as Sikkim CM. We will work together for Sikkim's progress."

Congratulating Patnaik, he said: "My congratulations to Shri Naveen Patnaik on being sworn in as Odisha CM. My best wishes & support for Odisha's development journey."

Modi-led the BJP and the NDA to a historic win against the Congress winning a whopping 336 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election.
