Police personnel injured following mob attack incident in Assam’s Hailakandi

Guwahati, Oct 11 (IBNS): Several police personnel were injured in a mob attack incident in Assam’s Hailakandi district on Friday evening.

According to the reports, the mob attack happened on a police personnel named Jamil Hussain on suspicion of child lifter at Nitainagar Lashkar Bazar area in Hailakandi district.

The mob also attacked a vehicle of the police personnel and the mob set ablaze the vehicle.

When a police team reached the spot to rescue the personnel from the clutch of the mob, some people also attacked the team

At least four police personnel including an official were injured in the pelting of stones.

Following the incident, Hailakandi district Superintendent of Police (SP) Pabindra Kumar Nath with a police team reached the spot and rescued the injured police personnel and admitted them to hospital.

“We have launched an operation to nab the culprits. A vehicle was damaged and few police personnel were injured. Situation is now under control and several persons were injured in the incident. The injured police officer has been referred to Silchar Medical College hospital for better treatment,” Pabindra Kumar Nath, Hailakandi SP said.

Meanwhile, the situation is still tense in the area.
