‘Rewarded for loyalty’: TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar rebels after Mamata removes her from Lok Sabha post

Kolkata/IBNS: Trinamool Congress MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar appeared to signal rebellion soon after party supremo Mamata Banerjee removed her as the chief whip in the Lok Sabha.

Dastidar was replaced by TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, who is considered a close aide of Mamata Banerjee.

In a cryptic Facebook post, Dastidar appeared to hint at betrayal by her party.

“Acquainted since 1976, our journey began in 1984. Today, I was rewarded for four decades of loyalty,” she wrote.

Dastidar has recently been facing trolling on social media after an old remark targeting now West Bengal Women and Child Development Minister Agnimitra Paul resurfaced online.

During a television debate, Dastidar was seen rudely talking to Paul passing a disparaging remark on her past profession of fashion designing .

"She prints sarees and all but today I deciphered her skill in drama... Don't talk to me like that, you don't know who I am?," Dastidar had said.

Several social media users reshared the viral clip with sarcastic remarks targeting Dastidar after her party suffered a crushing defeat to the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.

Paul, a former fashion designer, is a two-term MLA from Asansol Dakshin.

Besides the Women and Child Development Ministry, she holds the Urban Development and Municipal Affairs portfolio in the new BJP government.
