RSS chief calls for Hindu unity over caste barrier

| | Aug 18, 2014, at 03:19 pm
Mumbai, Aug 18 (IBNS) Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has urged the Hindus to unite by breaking caste barriers in matters of practicing their faith and water as he once again harped on a Hindutva identity for the nation.

"All Hindus in India go to the same place for drinking water, prayer and cremation," said the RSS chief speaking here, alluding to caste barriers that still does not allow the lower caste people to access in some places.

He said Hiduvta is the identity of the nation owing to the cultural practices of India.

The move is seen as a poll pitch and an effort to level the caste barriers that divide the Hindus, according to opposition parties.

Bhagwat said  Hindutva is the identity of India as he spoke at the function to mark 50 years of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), another Sangh Parivar body.

Opposition Congress has slammed the remarks saying the BJP government is backing such ideas.
