Setback for AAP-Congress as BJP wins Chandigarh mayoral elections

Chandigarh/IBNS: In a setback for the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress alliance, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a victory in the Chandigarh mayoral elections, media reports said.

BJP's Harpreet Kaur Babla defeated AAP candidate Prem Lata by two votes.

The BJP won with 19 votes as opposed to AAP-Congress' 17 votes.

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has 35 members including one Chandigarh MP (Congress) who has the right to cast his mandate as an ex-officio member.

The BJP's strength in the corporation is currently 16, AAP has 13 and Congress six.

Recently, Congress councillor Gurbax Rawat switched to the BJP.

The elections started at 11:20 am and concluded at 12:19 pm.
