Several explosions rock NE India, three IEDs recovered from upper Assam
According to reports, 10 Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) exploded in the region, including seven in Assam, two in Manipur and one in Arunachal Pradesh despite the tight security for the Republic Day celebrations.
In Assam, the IEDs were denoted in Charaideo, Sibsagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts.
Assam police said that there was no report of any casualty or damage to property in the explosions.
Assam DGP Mukesh Sahai said that the IEDs were of low intensity and militants exploded it to register their presence.
"Anti-talk faction group of ULFA is behind the explosions and we are trying to defeat all terror strikes in the state," Assam DGP said.
In Upper Assam's Charaideo district, three blasts took places at Bihubor and near a petrol pump at Dholbagan.
Militants reportedly triggered another explosion, just 500 metres away from Chowkidingi parade ground in Dibrugarh town, where the national flag was being unfurled at an official function.
Dibrugarh district police said that, a low intensity IED was exploded near a tea garden.
In Sibsagar district, two blasts took place at Majpani and Lengibor area near Nazira on Thursday morning.
The seventh blast took place at Sisimi village near Dhola bridge in Tinsukia district.
Security forces also recovered three IEDs from upper Assam's Tinsukia district.
Militants triggered another explosion at Choukham area in Arunachal Pradesh, local reports said.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the state is ready to celebrate the Republic Day without fear. "We are ready to defeat any terror threat," he said.
Two explosions rocked trouble-torn poll-bound Manipur on Thursday morning.
The IEDs went off in Imphal East district of Manipur.
Two of the blasts occurred in Mantripukhri and another near Manipur college in Imphal.
No casualties have been reported so far.
Several militants groups including ULFA(I), KLO, PDCK, GNLA, NDFB(S), NSCN(K), coordination committee of seven rebel groups of Manipur had called for a boycott of the Republic Day celebration in the region.
