Twitter introduces different checkmarks for businesses, individuals and governments

New Delhi/IBNS: Twitter has rolled out a blue tick, a gold tick and a grey tick to distinguish between different types of accounts.

Twitter shared the update in a blog post and announced the gradual rollout of "Twitter Blue for Business."

Badges are only available with the Twitter Blue subscription.

Companies with Twitter Blue subscriptions can link any number of their affiliated individuals, businesses, and brands to their accounts.

According to a Twitter blog post, Twitter Blue is $8/month on web and $11/month for those who sign up on iOS. Subscribers who sign up on one platform will have Twitter Blue access on all supported platforms (iOS, Android, and web).

"Existing Twitter Blue subscribers will be able to upgrade, cancel, or auto-renew their subscription at the new price. Prices may vary by region. We plan to offer subscriptions on Android soon," it said.

Affiliated accounts will get a small badge of their parent company's profile picture next to their blue or gold checkmark.

Verified business accounts have a gold checkmark. For example, in India—State Bank of India (SBI), Flipkart, SBI Cards and some other top businesses—have already received it.

The Twitter grey badge was announced earlier this month, and it simply helps users identify government officials.

Prominent Indian politicians such as PM Narendra Modi, Piyush Goyal, and Amit Shah have received the badge on their respective Twitter profiles and so have some of the top officials of the government. The feature is rolling out and gradually all government offices and the official handles of their personnel will carry the grey badge.

On the other hand, opposition leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and P Chidambaram still have the legacy Blue badge, which soon is going to be behind the Twitter Blue paywall.
