US woman alleges sexual assault at Karnataka homestay; owner among 2 arrested

Bengaluru/IBNS: A woman from the United States has alleged she was sexually assaulted at a homestay in Karnataka’s Kodagu district, according to media reports.

What happened?

As per the complaint, a worker at a homestay in Kutta village allegedly sexually assaulted the woman.

The accused has been identified as Vrujesh Kumar.

Action taken

Acting on the complaint, police have arrested the homestay owner and a worker.

Both have been remanded to judicial custody till May 3.

The owner has also been booked for allegedly attempting to suppress the incident by disconnecting the Wi-Fi connection to prevent the victim from contacting anyone.

How did the incident come to light?

After regaining access, the woman left the homestay on the pretext of travelling to Mysuru.

She later contacted the United States Embassy, which alerted the Mysuru police, following which a formal complaint was registered.

Investigation underway

A detailed probe into the alleged incident is currently underway.
