Uttar Pradesh Crime: Dalit youth attempts self-immolation, SO suspended

A Station Officer (SO) was suspended on Friday after a Dalit youth perturbed with police inaction attempted self-immolation in front of the police station in Gaindas Bujurg area of Balrampur district here in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said here.

Police sources said that Ram Bujarat (35), a resident of Gaindas Budjar town, had lodged a complaint with the police raising objection on the pillars being built for the wall of an under construction police station adjacent to his land.

Police sources said that perturbed with police inaction Ram Bujarat on Wednesday went live on Facebook poured petrol on himself and set himself on fire in front of the under-construction police station.

"He,who sustained serious burn injuries, was rushed to the hospital from where he was referred to Lucknow where his condition is stated to be serious," they said.

Police said that after an inquiry Superintendent of Police (SP) Keshav Kumar has suspended Station Officer (SO) of Gaindas Bujurg with immediate effect on charges of committing laxity.
