We will have a role in J&K govt formation: BJP

"We have got crucial mandate in J&K. We will definitely have a role in government formation. PDP and NC both have mandate. Discussions are going on," BJP leader Ram Madhav told mediapersons.

Meanwhile, BJP and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders would meet Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra on Saturday to discuss formation of a new government in the state where people gave a fractured mandate even though the PDP earned the highest number of 28 seats, followed by 25 by the BJP.

The Governor has already sought the proposals from the two parties. 

Media reports said BJP might seek more time from the Governor.

There are reports of PDP and BJP tie-up to rule the state though nothing has been confirmed yet amid various other permutations and combinations. There were also proposals of rotational CMs of BJP and PDP but media reports quoting the sources in PDP ruled that out too.

Reports of PDP forming government with Congress were also doing rounds. But nothing clear emerged yet.

The PDP has reportedly rejected the NC's offer of unconditional support.

Earlier, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who met BJP's 25 MLAs in Jammu after being appointed as observer along with the party's national secretary Arun Singh, said: "I met each new elected MLAs of BJP separately. The result here has created a situation for hung Assembly. I took advice on the government formation in such situation from all. The MLA's also advised on the role of BJP."

He said the MLAs decided to authorize BJP President Amit Shah to decide on the government formation here.

The BJP has emerged as a major player for the first time in the state.

Jaitley said, "BJP's formula for government formation will be on three principles - development, strengthening India's sovereignty and maintaining regional balance. Many options open to the BJP on government formation in Jammu and Kashmir. We are in touch with untouched members of the new state Assembly."

Jaitley also said that while many options are open for the party, they are in touch with the Independent legislators as well.

"We are in touch with unattached members," said he.

The fate of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly is still undecided.

National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah, who lost the Assembly polls, earlier  said he will not approach any party over government formation. He reportedly met BJP leaders in New Delhi on Thursday morning.

Omar Abdullah on Wednesday resigned as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

The poll result from the recently concluded Jammu and Kashmir election saw BJP winning 25 seats, Omar Abdullah's National Conference winning 15, Indian National Congress winning 12 seats, and the PDP winning the highest number of 28 seats in the 87 member assembly. Seven seats were won by others, including Independents.
