Atul Kulkarni observes one-day fast in support of Sonam Wangchuk, urges Centre to initiate dialogue

Kulkarni announced his protest through a video message on social media, urging the Central government to initiate dialogue with the protesters, who have been staging a sit-in at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi for over 20 days.

Kulkarni Observes One-Day Fast

Explaining the reasons behind his symbolic fast, Kulkarni said: "I will be observing a one-day hunger strike from my home on July 16 for two reasons. Firstly, I want to connect with the pain that Sonam-ji and his associates are experiencing. Secondly, I want to urge the government to express sensitivity towards the matter."

He added: "Sonam-ji and his associates feel they have certain demands because of some deeply painful reasons. Obviously, the government feels that those reasons or demands are not justified. I am not ready to accept the argument that our government is insensitive because we have seen it be thoughtful and connect with the pain of the people in the past."

"However, I feel there must be some misunderstanding due to which the government's sensitivity is not being reflected in this matter."

Appealing for an early resolution, the actor said: "A dialogue is not taking place, and I sincerely request the government to initiate one at the earliest."

Wangchuk's Protest

Wangchuk is on an indefinite hunger strike demanding Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation over the alleged paper leak controversy and broader issues concerning the education sector.

The climate activist joined the protest after it was originally launched by the satirical online movement Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).

Delhi High Court Intervenes

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court on Thursday directed the Centre to take all necessary steps to safeguard Wangchuk's health as his indefinite hunger strike entered its 19th day.

The court observed that every effort must be made to protect the life of the activist while considering the matter.

Wangchuk Urges Supporters to Join Parliament March

In a video message shared on Wednesday, Wangchuk acknowledged that his health had deteriorated but said his condition was not yet critical.

"I'm not in good shape but not so bad either... Rather than asking me to break my fast, please join me on 20th July... Peaceful March to the Parliament," he said.
